Booking an escorted holiday means handing over a piece of trust. You're relying on someone else to have thought through the logistics, chosen the right hotels, planned a pace that suits you, and put a guide on the ground who actually knows what they're doing. That trust has to be earned, not claimed. Here's what we think it comes down to.
What "escorted" and "guided" really mean
The terms get used loosely across the travel industry, so it's worth being specific about what they mean for us. An escorted holiday means you're never navigating a country alone: transport is arranged, accommodation is booked, and a tour manager is with the group throughout. A guided holiday adds a local expert for the activity itself, walking, cycling, or otherwise, someone who knows the terrain, the pace, and the points of interest that a map alone won't tell you.
Together, that means fewer decisions left to chance. You're not researching train times in a country where you don't speak the language, or hoping a hotel booking matches the photos. Someone has already done that work, and tested it.
Built on experience, not guesswork
Involved Holidays has 151 tours operating this year, and over 500 since we have been opened. 2026 holds the title for the most amount of tours we have ran. Every itinerary we run has been developed and refined through actual departures, not just planned on paper. That matters more than it sounds: it's the difference between a holiday that looks good in a brochure and one that's been tested against real weather, real transport connections, and real groups of travellers.
A range built for different paces, not different audiences
We started as walking holiday specialists, and guided walking is still at the heart of what we do. But not every traveller wants the same pace or style, so the range has grown around that:
- Guided walking holidays for those who want the classic escorted walking experience, expert-led routes and good company.
- River cruises for a gentler pace, watching the landscape change from the water with all the logistics handled.
- Classic escorted tours for those who want to see the sights of a destination without organising a single train or hotel themselves.
- Private group departures for clubs, friends, or organisations who want a holiday shaped around their own group.
Each of these is a properly developed product in its own right, not a variation bolted on to fill a gap in the brochure.
What's included, and what isn't left to chance
Trust is built on specifics, not adjectives. Every Involved Holiday includes checked luggage, transfers, an average of 18 passengers, and mainly half-board accommodation. If you're travelling alone, we have over 16 destinations that have no single supplement!
Support that doesn't stop at booking
A brochure promise is easy. What matters is what happens after you've booked, and while you're away. Before departure, our team is on hand to answer questions about the holiday, the destination, or anything you're unsure of. Once you're travelling, your tour manager is your single point of contact if anything needs sorting, so you're never left trying to solve a problem in a language you don't speak.
The Involved Holidays Representative, Joao Nunes, was excellent. He looked after us extremely well. Not only did he do a great job organising the scheduled birdwatching trips (minibuses and birdwatching experts), he also organised outings on the other days which were interesting and enjoyable. We cannot praise him enough for his efforts on behalf of the group. He made a major contribution to making this an enjoyable and memorable holiday for all of us.
