Walking in Andalucia’s Eastern Coast
About this holiday
Looking for fantastic walking holidays in Andalucía?
Look no further, our best selling Andalucía’s Eastern Coast Walking Holiday (known as Costa Tropical) has it all.
Glorious hills, vast mountains, sandy beaches, hidden coves, and the crystal clear inviting waters of the southern Mediterranean. What else could you ask for in the sub-tropical climate of the south of Spain?
Your base is the coastal city of Almuñécar, where the Sierras mountains plunge into the sea and you will find no less than 25 wonderful beaches and coves within the local region. It is a city whose Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish past is still evident through its steep historical architecture & cultural references.
The standout highlight of the holiday is the included excursion on day three, where you will visit the famous Alhambra Palace Fortress and Complex in Granada. Locally known as the “The Red One”, it is only a short distance from your hotel. Alhambra was the last city to be surrendered by the Moors in 1492 and will delve in to the rich history of the area and include a guided tour around the Generalife Gardens, the Summer Palace, Alcazaba, and the Charles V Palace.

Itinerary
On arrival at Malaga airport, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Hotel Bahia
Tropical (55 miles) located in Almuñécar for seven nights half board accommodation.
Your first walk is a circuit departing directly from the hotel. Your guide will take you via historic coastal paths, across sandy beaches and coves to your destination, where you can take in the spectacular views across the cliffs and visit the Devils Tower (Torre Diablo).
The terrain is a mix of rough trails and road walking with the steep ground in parts.
5 miles - 200m ascent/descent
You will have time to explore Granada before your guided visit of the Alhambra complex. The Alhambra complex consists of several areas including the Generalife Garden and Summer Palace, Alcazaba, Charles V Palace, and the Nasrid Palaces.
Please note the Nasrid Palace part of the complex may not be included in your visit.
Enjoy a day in resort to relax and unwind. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, speak to your local guide, who can offer advice on the area and suggest places to explore at your own pace.
There is a 60 minute coach transfer to the Sierra Nevada where you start your walk from Capileira (4000ft). The route is a well-used walking trail that winds between Capileira, Bubion (3500ft) and ends in Pampaneira (3000 ft).
5 miles - 150m ascent | 300m descent
A beautiful coastal route starting in the charming village of La Herradura. As you walk, explore the coastline to Marina del Ese, a picturesque marina with beautiful yachts and a lovely waterfront setting. Continue on to Almuñécar where you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
6 miles - 150m ascent
Today’s walk starts in the charming white-washed village of Frigiliana before heading out to the coast. You will walk through picturesque countryside, passing olive groves & citrus orchards along the way. Continuing towards Nerja, take in the breathtaking views of the Med & explore the town in your free time.
5.5 miles - 80m ascent
Free time until your transfer to the airport and your return flight home.

“The room was lovely and spacious but very noisy in the evening as above the bar.
Somewhat disappointed with the food choices for vegans, especially in the evenings, it was
basically salad, bread and chips. Manuel was an excellent guide, very helpful.”
