Transfer to Mount Etna for a walk amidst its remarkable landscapes. You begin the walk at Rifugio Sapienza (1,910 metres) and proceed along a panoramic route, which provides consistent views toward the impressive summit. The path reveals the unique volcanic landscapes, various craters, and the hardy, specific endemic flora of the region. Upon reaching approximately 2,100 metres, the route leads to a detour to observe the craters formed by the significant 2001 eruptions. You then continue past the Monti Calcarazzi and the entrance to the Abisso dei Monti Calcarazzi cave (which is viewed from the outside for safety considerations). After crossing the dark course of the 2001 lava flow, you undertake an ascent to the Silvestri Superior Crater. This final elevation offers extensive, impressive panoramas of the surrounding volcanic theatre and the Sicilian coast. Ascent – 400m Distance – 5 miles

Day Four – Walk 2
Today you will embark on a wonderful and easy-going day exploring the amazing Alcantara Gorge. This place is truly special—it’s a stunning canyon with huge, beautiful basalt walls that were sculpted by the river and lava from Etna. You will follow a scenic trail that gives lots of varied views. The walking is gradual with a gentle ascent to reach a great spot for panoramic views. You will have chance to gently descend into the gorge itself. Where you can touch and see the millennia-old basalt rock formations which feels like stepping into a peaceful, ancient world. This walk will treat you to gorgeous views that include the famous Mount Etna and the Peloritani Mountains, with the charming village of Motta Camastra tucked right into the scenery. It’s a perfect, unforgettable day out. Approx. 5 miles

On today’s walk you get to experience a different side of Sicily. You will take a rural walk through the tranquil, rolling countryside surrounding Forza d’Agrò. This charming medieval town is famously tied to The Godfather films—a fun piece of history to look out for. This walk is designed to be a comfortable circular route, allowing you to meander through ancient landscapes rich in local flowers and greenery. The pace is relaxed, ensuring you have plenty of time to simply stop and enjoy the atmosphere. You’ll be absolutely spoiled by the views. The route offers fantastic panoramic perspectives of the sparkling Tyrrhenian coast, the distant shores of Calabria, and the stunning peaks of the Nebrodi Mountains.
