Itinerary
On arrival at Reus airport, you will be transferred to the Estival Maramar Hotel for 7 nights half-board accommodation.
Depart the hotel for a short coach transfer to the start of your walk near the medieval Mora watchtower. You cross the beach and the headland before reaching Tamarit and its castle. Your guide will lead you along the beach and then a short way inland, up the river, to explore the ‘witches’ village’ of Altafulla. The coastal area, the story goes, was plagued by pirates and smugglers: it was said that the upper part of the village was populated by witches, so as to discourage attack! You return to the wide beautiful beach and climb onto the headland to reach ‘Els Munts’, an impressive Roman ‘villa’ (the word means a farmstead) – entrance fee applies. Your walk continues, descending into Torredembarra for lunch (not included) before returning by train. Total 6 miles, 80m of ascent/descent.
Free day in resort.
Coach transfer to start the walk between Vimbodí and l’Espluga de Francolí. You walk under the railway and down to the Castle of Milmanda, owned by the Torres wine family and surrounded by vineyards. From the castle, you follow a path to l’Espluga de Francolí, known for its striking modernist ‘Wine Cathedral’ and lively town square with two churches (old and new). Next, continue to Montblanc, a perfectly preserved medieval town where Saint George is said to have slain the dragon. The town is full of charming streets, impressive ramparts, and cosy cafés. It’s the perfect place for lunch and a bit of sightseeing. After free time, you head to the station for the train back to the coast, changing en route at the striking triangular station platform at La Plana. Today’s walk is 7.5 miles, 150m of ascent/descent.
Today, you’ll take a private transport ride to Tarragona, just 20 miles away, where you’ll explore the rich Roman heritage of this ancient city, once the capital of the Province of Northern Spain and home to Emperor Augustus. Your local guide will lead you through well-preserved Roman ruins, including the stunning seaside amphitheatre, the Pretorium with its panoramic views, the Circus Maximus, and the Roman Forum, while you stroll through charming medieval streets and squares. After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to wander the market area, explore the new Rambla with its statue of the ‘Castell’ (human tower), and enjoy lunch at a local café. In the afternoon, you can opt for more free time or join an optional walk to discover even more of Tarragona’s rich cultural heritage.
Walk to the station to catch the train to the village station of Capçanes, known for its vineyards and traditional stone buildings. From here, you’ll head towards the ravine, a picturesque gorge lined with Mediterranean scrub, rocky cliffs, and small streams. After a while, the path rises toward the village of Marça, offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and olive groves. For the return leg, the route takes you through pleasant countryside of vineyards and olives, with sweeping vistas of the Priorat countryside. Coach transfer back to the coast. Today’s walk is 7 miles, 215 m of ascent/descent.
Free day in resort.
Free time until you depart for the airport for your flight home.
