My first walking holiday, absolutely great, from start to finish. Our guide Jorge was very knowledgeable and super helpful also knew all our names! 23 of us ! Hotel was superb !In a beautiful area of Isla de Canela. From arriving at Faro airport we were looked after in every way. Really looking forward to our next holiday with Involved Holidays...5 🌟 from me (and I don't often leave reviews)...JB
One mark of a good tour company is how they cope when things don’t go to plan. Our walking holiday in Sicily was marred by particularly poor service from the transportation company hired to take us to the walking areas, but thanks to the strenuous efforts of the local guide and Involved Holidays back-room staff what could have been a complete disaster was successfully averted.
These mishaps aside, the hotel was excellent although perhaps a little isolated. Staff were friendly and very helpful; the room and en suite were spacious and comfortable, with a sunny balcony from which we had beautiful sea views; the food for breakfasts and dinners was of good quality, plentiful and varied.
The walks on the slopes of Mount Etna were challenging but the views were worth the effort and the guides were knowledgeable and attentive to the needs of the group. The final walk down into Taormina along the Saracen Way provided a pleasant contrast.
Overall an enjoyable, if eventful, holiday.
A huge highlight was our fantastic guide, Meritxell. Due to events outside Involved Holidays' control, the 3 walks couldn't go strictly as planned, but Meritxell handled everything brilliantly. To beat some incoming bad weather, she rearranged the schedule so we brought our 3rd walk forward by a day. Doing two walks back-to-back was tough for me, but it was completely the right call to get the best out of the weather. That 3rd walk was definitely my favorite of the trip! The 2nd walk was my least favorite due to the rougher terrain and a less scenic ending, but overall the experience was fantastic.
Meritxell was supported by her husband David, who was equally wonderful—he did an excellent job looking after back-markers and sub-groups so everyone felt supported. They made a fantastic team!
The accommodation was top-notch too. The Estival Maramar Hotel was in a great location, and I loved the rooftop adults-only pool—perfect for unwinding after a day on your feet. The evening buffet meals were delicious with a wide variety of choices every night.
I couldn't have asked for a better holiday and would highly recommend this trip!
We stayed in a lovely hotel with good food and drinks included with the evening meal.
The walks with our guide Joao, who informed us of the area, were varied, interesting and not too difficult. They were set in the lovely countryside and coastal areas with plenty of rests and stops for refreshments if needed.
There were various points were there was an alternative route for anyone who did not feel up to finishing the full route.
We had an optional excursion to Faro by train and were taken to the cathedral and a church of bones and were treated to a coffee, local pastry(pastel de nata) and a bottle of water to keep us hydrated in the hot weather.
We visited lovely towns and villages throughout the week and experienced a walk along the salt marshes back to our hotel.
Tavira is a lovely Portuguese unspoilt town with plenty of interesting places to visit including a trip by ferry to the island of Tavira.
This was a fabulous holiday with a great walking guide and a lovely group of walkers.
