2. Wildlife

Spain’s wildlife is vast, varied and always interesting. Whether it’s climbing rocks, hiding in foliage, swooping in the sky or splashing in the sea there is always something to spot. Below is a list of some of the more common and uncommon wildlife you might catch a glimpse of.

  • Reptiles/Amphibians – Spain is home to a wide variety of colourful lizards and frogs, commonly seen in wetlands.
  • Birds of Prey – Majestic eagles, falcons and vultures soar in the skies in many of the places we visit.  Keep an eye out for these beautiful birds.
  • Wild Boar – Often found foraging in woodland, wild boar are commonplace in the Costa Blanca Mountains, where farmers see them as a nuisance.
  • Spanish Ibex – Keep an eye out for these agile mountain goats as they traverse the rocky terrain of Spain’s high peaks. They have been spotted numerous times in the Sierra de Mijas.
  • Red Deer – In forested areas of the Sierra Nevada, you might spot these beautiful animals, especially during the height of the mating season.
  • Mouflon –  Descendants of ancient domesticated sheep, mouflon roam Spain’s mountains and hillsides.
  • Marine Life – Keep your eyes on the horizon as you trek the coastal paths, dolphins, whales and seals can be seen on clear days across the Mediterranean Sea.

5. Cuisine

A tapestry of flavour, Spain’s south coast is a vibrant fusion of fresh seafood, aromatic spices, and Mediterranean flavours. Influenced by Moorish traditions and abundant local produce, dishes like paella and tapas burst with colour, flavour and freshness. Olive oil, wines, and sherry add richness to the culinary tapestry of this sun-drenched region.

6. Authentic Experience

Explore Spain’s southern coast for authentic experiences steeped in culture and tradition. Indulge in Andalusian cuisine, witness the passion of flamenco shows, and wander through charming white villages. Delve into olive oil production, meet artisans, and discover historical landmarks. Experience fishing village life, immerse in local festivals, and enjoy coastal walks, along with beach relaxation, creating unforgettable memories.

7. Weather

Our walking holidays operate across the year and are weather dependent based on the destination. Typically with Spain, passengers can expect to travel between February and June, and then September to November.

This provides the perfect opportunity to explore your destination in warmer conditions that aren’t too hot. It also means there are less tourists and travelling can be a little more pleasant. Nobody likes the hustle and bustle of a busy airport!

8. Trail Variety

Spain offers a diverse array of walking paths, each showcasing unique characteristics and cultural heritage. Coastal trails wind along rugged cliffs and sandy shores, providing panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Mountain paths traverse alpine fields, pine forests, and rocky peaks, taking in breathtaking vistas. Inland routes meander through picturesque white villages, vineyards, and olive groves, allowing walkers to immerse themselves in the real Spain and its rural charm.

9. Historical Sites

The architectural heritage of southern Spain reflects a rich tapestry of influences, from Moorish palaces like the UNESCO-listed Alhambra, showcasing intricate Islamic designs, to Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque churches. This blend of Moorish, Christian, and Mudejar styles has shaped the region’s iconic landmarks, offering a glimpse into its diverse cultural history.

10. Distance

With multiple flights departing the UK daily from regional airports, it couldn’t be easier to get to your destination as stress free as possible. With flights taking two to three hours on average to arrive at your destination, it roughly takes the same amount of time as a brisk Sunday morning stroll.
