Walking with wonderful wildlife

Experience the wild side of Europe as you explore scenic trails surrounded by nature, from the forests of Transylvania to some of the continent’s most picturesque landscapes. Each walk brings the chance to encounter local wildlife, whether it is vibrant butterflies, rare birdlife, or deer quietly roaming the countryside.

Guided by knowledgeable experts, you will do more than take in the views. You will uncover the stories and ecosystems that shape each destination.

The Carpathian Mountains in Romania are home to Europe’s largest population of brown bears, making the region one of the continent’s last true wilderness areas. Although sightings on a walk are very rare, the knowledge that these magnificent animals inhabit the surrounding forests brings a real sense of adventure and authenticity to your journey.

As you follow quiet woodland trails and pass through remote valleys, you may notice subtle signs of their presence, from tracks in the earth to markings on trees. The natural atmosphere that makes walking here so special.

One of the quiet highlights of our walking holidays is the chance to encounter an ever changing display of butterflies along the trail. These delicate creatures thrive in meadows, clearings and sun warmed paths create the perfect habitat. In regions such as Tuscany, the combination of Mediterranean sunshine and diverse plant life attracts an impressive range of species.

Across our destinations in the UK and Europe, each region brings its own unique variety, shaped by local climate and terrain. Whether you are strolling through alpine meadows, coastal paths or rolling countryside, these fleeting encounters add a gentle sense of wonder to your walking experience, turning simple moments into something quietly memorable.

There is something truly captivating about encountering flamingos in the wild, and on our walking holidays you may have the chance to witness these elegant birds in their natural habitat. In the wetlands of Costa Blanca and Provence, lagoons and salt flats provide the perfect conditions for flamingos to gather, often in large numbers.

These graceful birds are rarely alone. Instead, they move together in flocks, creating a striking scene as shades of pink ripple across the water. Watching them feed is a peaceful experience in itself, and if you get the chance to spot them, you have to stop and watch.
