Our Walking Guide | Mijas

Learn a little more about Juan, our local walking guide in Mijas.

Q: Where is your favourite place to walk and why?

Juan: My favourite place is Mijas. Why? It was where i was born and I know it very well.

Q: How long have you been a walking guide?

Juan: I have been a walking guide for a over 15 years now.

Q: What food would you recommend to take on a walk?

Juan: The routes on the holiday aren’t too long so I would recommend some fruit and plenty of water.

Q: How far do you normally walk in a week?

Juan: It depends on the time of year and the difficulty but anywhere on average between 5-20km a day

Q: Do you use any specialist equipment?

Juan: Only a good pair of walking boots, lightweight clothing and a first aid kit.

Q: How fit do you need to be to go on our walking holiday?

Juan: Enough to be able to walk 10k comfortably

A: Do you walk in all weathers?

Juan: We walk in all weather here as it gets very hot and we are used to the high temperatures. I would recommend to walk in the morning or late afternoon/evening to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Q: What to wear on a walking holiday?

Juan: Always wear footwear that is comfortable. Light layers that can been added and taken off to adjust to the climate as this can change very quickly depending on where you are walking.

Q: What one item should you always pack for a walking holiday? (Not walking boots)

Juan: I would always recommend taking a mobile phone. Not only is it essential in an emergency but you can capture pictures and videos of your walks.

Q: Where was the last place you went on holiday?

Tom: The last place I visited was Cordoba, I would recommend visiting it one day.

Juan will be escorting our groups this Autumn & Spring across all dates on “Walking-the-Sierra-De-Mijas”.
