Marc and I recently joined one of our groups on a wonderful trip to Catalonia, and what a fantastic experience it was! We and our guests absolutely loved the new Estival Maramar Hotel in Coma Ruga – the perfect place to unwind after a day’s exploring. Its location couldn’t be better, with the train station just a short stroll away, making it so easy to reach Tarragona, Reus, and even Barcelona for a day of sightseeing.
One of the highlights of our trip was a day out in Tarragona, where a knowledgeable local guide brought the city’s fascinating Roman history to life as we explored its ancient streets and impressive ruins. Afterwards, we had some free time to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy a delicious traditional Spanish lunch, and indulge in a coffee and crepe while watching the world go by — a perfect afternoon!
During our stay, Marc and I also enjoyed two of the three stunning walks, each revealing a different side of Catalonia’s breathtaking scenery – from dramatic coastal views to peaceful inland trails. It truly was a trip to remember!
See some of our highlights…
Our Catalonia adventure was filled with wonderful walks, sunshine, and a real taste of Spanish life. On our first day, we set off on a stunning coastal walk from La Mora to Torredembarra, following the rugged shoreline past Tamarit Castle, a fairytale-like fortress perched at the end of a golden beach. The sea breeze, wildflowers, and sparkling views made it a perfect start to the trip. We rounded off the day in Torredembarra with a delicious tapas lunch, complete with fresh paella, before hopping on the train back to our resort.
Another highlight was our day out in Tarragona, where our local guide, Alexa, brought the city’s rich Roman history to life before we enjoyed a couple of hours to wander, grab lunch, or simply soak up the atmosphere over coffee.
Later in the week, we traded the coast for the countryside, walking from Espluga to Montblanc through peaceful vineyards and open fields. Montblanc’s medieval charm, cobbled streets, and cosy cafés provided the perfect end to a wonderfully varied day on foot, before heading back to the resort on a scenic train ride.
